Upcoming Class |
January 15, 2007 Happy New Year to each and everyone of you from Sue Virgil and Bill Smullen. We hope the year ahead will be productive and successful for you all. We are looking forward to 2007 because it offers a new venture and a promising future. We are no longer going to manage the Executive Management Development and Training Program contract for the Defense Department. We are, however, going to continue with and expand the scope of National Security Studies. It will now be open to members of the federal government at large, to include DoD, to state and local government officials and to representatives of the private sector as well. NSS will continue to reside at the Maxwell School at Syracuse University and will continue to be managed by the Smullen-Virgil Team. We intend to have our first two-week course from April 29-May 11, 2007. It will be for mid-level managers, both civilian and military, and will be held here at the Maxwell School. The strength of this endeavor will include the composition of each class and the agenda of each course. In this first course we hope to have a broad cross section of mid-level managers with an interest or experience in national security matters in our classroom. We will provide them a wide array of topical offerings and emerging issues that will contribute to the next generation of their thinking and the leadership skills they apply to the challenges that lie ahead. We hope you as friends of NSS will consider contributing to this effort by providing your continued support of National Security Studies, by encouraging friends and colleagues to participate in our program, and by suggesting topics and speakers you would like to see on the agenda. Our goals are ambitious but our purpose is clear. We want to continue to make a contribution to the well-being of the Nation by having a NSS program that is about growing the skills, competence and considerations of military and civilian leaders who are responsible for national security matters. We want to better develop their management, leadership and decision-making competencies as they apply them to the challenges of this critical moment in time. If you are interested in a continuing relationship with us or want to know more about the future of NSS, please let us know by contacting us. We thank you in advance for your interest and support and we send you our very best wishes.
Sincerely, F.W. Smullen, III NSS Director
